California pants

California pants
DARE: 1927 (Clark says the term has been in oral use since the 1870s)
Clark indicates that these were heavy woolen pants with a double weave worn when riding horses for long periods of time. They were generally brown or tan and usually of a striped, checked, or plaid design, and may have been reinforced with buck or antelope skin.
